Advanced Resource Management Steward

Advanced Resource Management Stewards (ARMS) are 'graduate' long-term volunteers from the Land Steward program who have developed the required hands-on experience, skills and knowledge to adopt a predetermined, staff-identified priority site within a preserve. Volunteers in this advanced role work independently on a wide range of resource and data management tasks both in the preserves and online.

• Perform invasive, non-native vegetation management, monitoring, and reporting of assigned field sites
• Collect and report data as part of the Midpen group in Calflora
• Regularly coordinate with staff to ensure efficient execution of site plan
• Attend scheduled trainings, meetings, and group workdays

 Prerequisites

• ARMS is not a direct entry program; volunteers in this role ‘graduate’ from the Land Steward Program after expressing interest and demonstrating the skills and knowledge required for this advanced role.
• Candidates must develop plant identification skills and removal techniques through regular attendance at Land Steward projects before being considered for this advanced position. It's recommended to attend Land Stewards projects for a full year in order to fully understand the work involved and gain exposure to the full array of pest plants to be addressed seasonally. 
• Previous experience in restoration, botany, or land management is helpful, but not required; most important is a passion for resource management and the ability to learn/identify various plant species.
• Must be able to commit to a minimum of one-year in the program with at least 4 site visits per year (once per season).
• Must be computer literate and somewhat tech savvy to learn and use an online software database that requires mapping, plant quantity estimation, and other field data metrics.

 Training

• ARMS candidates are exposed to many of the required work elements through repeated attendance at Land Steward projects.
• Formal training includes additional office sessions and/or site visits, plant identification techniques, proper tool use, and data management in Calflora.
