Join Midpen staff for a trail maintenance workday at Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve on the Zinfandel Trail. Did you know there's a working winery and tasting room at this preserve? We will be clearing accumulated soil from the uphill side of the trail to restore the tread width, making minor tread improvements, and trimming vegetation if needed. This will probably be our concluding project on this trail for the year. Staff will provide training on hand tool safety and guide volunteers in performing typical maintenance activities. This project is an excellent opportunity for first-time volunteers!

Join Midpen staff as we celebrate National Public Lands Day with trail maintenance at Long Ridge Open Space Preserve on the Achistaca Trail. "Achistaca" is a word from the Mutsun language meaning "Place of the Enemy/Competitor," and referred to the Cotoni people who lived in the upland Santa Cruz Mountains. We will be restoring the tread width by removing accumulated soil and some vegetation that's grown into it. This is an opportunity to learn more about how we keep the trails accessible for users throughout the year. Staff will provide training on hand tool safety and guide volunteers in performing typical maintenance activities. This project is an excellent opportunity for first-time volunteers!

Join Midpen staff for a fun workday removing invasive slender false brome and French broom at La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve. Staff will provide training on plant identification, removal techniques, and information about why we want to remove this plant from our local landscape. This is an excellent opportunity for first time volunteers!

This project requires shuttling. Please plan to be on site for the duration of the entire project.


Project Details, Requirements and Qualifications 

Advance registration is required. 

 


First time Midpen volunteers –Step 1:Create an Accountto submit required forms. Go to the Qualifications tab in the drop-down menu in youraccount dashboard to complete the Volunteer Agreement and Release and Waiver of Liability. Step 2: Return to the project webpage and click the green "Register" button in the upper right cornerandbe sure to scroll to the bottom and click "Submit Opportunity Response". 

 


Returning volunteers -Once you have created an account and completed all forms, reserve your spot for Land Steward projects by clicking the "Register" button. 

All minors under the age of 18 must provide parent/guardian approval (signed Volunteer Agreement and Release of Liability form) prior to the project day and be accompanied by a parent/adult for the duration of the volunteer project.Minor children may not be dropped off at a project.

What You Will Need 

To get the most out of your day with us, please bring or wear the following: 

Sturdy shoes (no sandals or open-toed shoes) 

Layered clothing: long pants, long-sleeved shirt, jacket, etc. 

Gear appropriate for that day’s weather (hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, rain gear, etc.) 

Snacks, lunch, refillable water bottle
