Join Midpen staff and our partners at the Trail Center as we make improvements to the Razorback Ridge Trail in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. Midpen staff and crew leaders from the Trail Center will provide tools and training on what promises to be a fun and rewarding day.
This project will require shuttling and sharing a vehicle with staff and other volunteers. Please arrive on time and be available to stay for the entire project.
Project difficulty rating: Moderate - Strenuous. This project involves a 2.0 mile hike, down the trail and then back up.
Project Details, Requirements and Qualifications
- Advance registration is required.
- First time Midpen volunteers – Step 01: Create an Account to submit required forms. Go to the Qualifications tab in the drop-down menu in your account dashboard to complete the Volunteer Agreement and Release and Waiver of Liability. Step 02: Return to the project webpage and click the green "Register" button in the upper right corner to register; be sure to scroll to the bottom and click "Submit Opportunity Response".
- Returning volunteers -Once you have created an account and completed all forms, reserve your spot for Land Steward projects by clicking the "Register" button.
- NOTE (November 2, 2022): The Volunteer Agreement form was recently updated and all volunteers, both new and returning, are required to review and sign this updated version that will include an automatic 2-year expiration date reminder.
- PLEASE NOTE This is a joint project between Midpen and The Trail Center. In order to participate volunteers must register with Midpen and ALSO complete Trail Center's Liability waiver linked HERE
Meeting Location

Participants will be shuttled in Midpen vehicles to the top of Razorback Ridge trail on Skyline Blvd. Participants will work on the trail as they hike down the trail and then hike back up to the the trail head and shuttled back to their vehicles at the end of the day.
What You'll Need
To get the most out of your day, please bring or wear the following:
- Sturdy shoes (no sandals or open-toed shoes)
- Layered clothing: long protective pants, a long-sleeved shirt, jacket, etc.
- Gear appropriate to the day's weather conditions at Skyline Ridge Preserve (hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, rain gear, etc.)
- Snacks, lunch and your refillable water bottle
Hazards and Safety
Welcome to the outdoors where you may encounter the following:
- Ticks
- Poison oak and other plants that cause skin rash or irritation)
- Uneven, steep ground with tripping hazards
- Rattlesnakes and other wildlife
- Sharp tools and equipment
- Unfavorable weather conditions (heat, wind, rain)
