Description

Wildlife Insights: Midpen's Wildlife Recording Unit Program!

Have you even noticed wildlife cameras tucked alongside a trail and wondered about the backstory? Who owns those, what is the purpose, and how is the data used? Sign-up for the training to become a part of the secret world of wildlife field data collection and management! Volunteers will help process data collected from Midpen's wildlife camera and audio recording units and get a peek behind the other side of the camera.

 DETAILS:
• Midpen's Natural Resource (NR) Department uses wildlife cameras and audio recording units to monitor and record wildlife activity and environmental conditions for scientific and educational outreach purposes. The information gathered helps Midpen fulfill it's Resource Management Mission to protect and restore the diversity and integrity of resources and ecological processes for their value to the environment and to people.

• Using Wildlife Insights, an online software, volunteers will identify, tag, and sort images uploaded from Midpen field cameras. Training provided by the project manager includes detailed instructions along with an informative manual and species guide.

This is a medium-term, virtual opportunity that requires a 6-month commitment with an average of 4 hours per week.

• No prior experience with field cameras or equipment is required, but participants must have access to a computer with basic to intermediate computer skills, and the ability to learn a photo image sorting and tagging software through staff provided training.

A mandatory online training will be held on May 9 at 6:00 pm. Click 'register' in the upper right corner to participate in the training and opportunity. Staff will be in touch with details as the training date approaches.
